Exhibition 'Double Spy'
Double Spy
War, betrayal, misinformation.
April 27, 2023 to January 7, 2024
"In wars, the truth dies first." This ancient wisdom still holds true today. Deception played a crucial role during World War II. Starting April 27, 2023, the Freedom Museum's temporary exhibition Double Spy
shows how wartime secret services managed to elevate misinformation to an art with the help of a network of defected secret agents: double spies.
These are spectacular stories. We meet the man who inspired James Bond and a fantasist who single-handedly fooled German intelligence. We learn how the Enigma was cracked, how the attack on Pearl Harbor could have been exposed and how the Normandy landings became a historic success thanks to double agents. The stories come to life in photographs, videos and authentic objects, including, as the centerpiece, a real Enigma machine.
Double Spy is an exciting, experiential exhibit full of adventures and plenty of historical content. Visitors wander through the 1940s and discover new stories and mysteries to unravel behind every door. He cracks a code in a prison cell, takes a gamble in the casino and learns to cheat the enemy in a military headquarters. A journey through the history of betrayal and deception is followed by a visit to the present: are there still real double agents? How does misinformation work? Do you recognize "fake news?
The temporary exhibition Double Spy is a meaningful and thrilling experience not to be missed. To be visited from April 27, 2023 through January 7, 2024 at the Freedom Museum in Groesbeek.
