Commemoration of V1 bombing victims Feb. 18, 1945
On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, 80 years after it happened, the victims of the V1 bombing on the corner of Biezenstraat - Waterstraat will be commemorated.
The memorial meeting will take place from 10:00 to ± 11:30 at monastery community "The Source" on the side of Biezenstraat, where the plaque has been placed. Afterwards there will be an opportunity to talk with (former) residents, family and other interested parties in the Biezantijn community center.
The program of the meeting is as follows:
- 10 a.m.: Welcome song by choir Joachim and Anna
- 10:05 a.m.: Welcome by the memorial committee.
- 10:10 a.m.: Opening remarks by Mayor Hubert Bruls, Municipality of Nijmegen
- 10:20 a.m.: Contribution by Joost Rosendaal, historian
- 10:30 a.m.: Intermission by choir Joachim and Anna
- 10:40 a.m.: Remembrance by or on behalf of Diny van Leeuwen, (former) neighborhood resident
- 10:50 a.m.: Commemoration by grade 7 and 8 students Child Center Aquamarijn. The plaque has been adopted by Kindcentrum Aquamarijn
- 10:55 a.m.: Honorary signal by horn blower Fanfare 'Korps Nationale Reserve' followed by 2 minutes of silence and laying of flowers
- 11:15 a.m.: Words of thanks by the memorial committee
- 11:20 a.m.: Final song by choir Joachim and Anna
From 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., while enjoying coffee/tea, there will be an opportunity to talk afterward at community center the Biezantijn on Waterstraat 146 (diagonally across from the monastery).
After the 2 minutes of silence there will be an opportunity to lay flowers at the plaque. Bring an umbrella in case of bad weather, the outdoor program will be shortened and the speeches will take place in community center the Biezantijn.
Important: Should you come by car, please allow for some parking time in the Waterstraat or surroundings. About 100 meters from the site of the commemoration is the Biezantijn community center, where there will be an opportunity to chat after the commemoration. For those with walking difficulties, a limited number of chairs will be available at the commemoration on Sedge Street.
