Continue to remember

an image of a stage

He saw the movie Saving Private Ryan and then Siem van der Kolk knew for sure: this must not be forgotten. Recently, the 16-year-old student from Groesbeek joined the youth organization of the Groesbeek Airborne Friends Foundation. He wants to keep the memory of World War II alive: "Terrible things happened then. People died for our freedom. We have to keep remembering them."

Siem wants to do that in his own way, to get his peers involved. He is active on Facebook, Instagram and Tiktok with the Groesbeek Airborne Friends Youth Section.

Soon he will walk a route with children along places in Groesbeek related to the war. He wants to stream that route live via mobile phone and laptop, so others can watch. He is working hard on that now. His school, the Montessori College in Groesbeek, supports Siem's initiative. "I get to go to commemorations during school hours. They think it's important too."
