LIVING WITH WAR - THEN & NOW

an image of a stage

Three years ago, in May 2020, despite all the coronagraphs, we marked "75 Years of Freedom. Freedom seemed a given in Western Europe. Since the war in Ukraine, we know better. Oppression, unfreedom and war are not limited to other parts of the world: they can also occur in Europe, less than 2,000 kilometers from home.

"Living with war, then and now," is the theme of the regional program Freedom in the Rijk van Nijmegen. People tell how the Second World War still affects their lives almost eighty years later. Others, how their lives recently turned completely upside down because they had to leave their country. Children from Ukraine express this in their own way in drawings.
